Podiatry or podiatric medicine is a branch of medicine devoted to the study, diagnosis, and medical and surgical treatment of disorders of the foot, ankle and lower extremity. Podiatrists study at university for 3 years and can work in the private sector or NHS. There are may specialities in Podiatry including sports medicine, Diabetes and peripheral arterial disease (poor blood supply), Rheumatology, Gait analysis and biomechanical examination and insoles, muscloskeletal Podiatry and forensic podiatry.
Podiatrists work with doctors and General practitioners, Hospital consultants, Nurses and Physiotherapists.
